Do Anti-Piracy efforts really help?

In case you were bored with the old FBI warning and anti-piracy notifications, the FBI has decided to add more! The US government issued brand-new copyright notices that are designed not only to inform users on the fact that piracy is illegal, but also to educate them. To accomplish this, there will be the usual screen, but with two badges (shown below).

The first screen will feature not one, but two scary badges to deter movie pirates!

A second screen will also appear after 10 seconds, trying to educate you on the harm of piracy (shown below).

Do you feel educated now?

Despite increasing the amount of warnings, piracy is gaining popularity. Although sales of physical media have slowed, sales digitally have stayed stable. This suggests that more movies are being pirated, which is not surprising. Pirated movies have no previews or warnings. The movie starts as soon as you click on the file! To explain this further, I have included the image below. Although with pirated movies, you  really don't need to put in a disk, you just double-click!

Completely true, isn't it?

  1. :) I don't think people really know what will actually happen to them since this is a new type of crime. But good luck to the gov for attempting to stop it !
