Every iOS device has a UDID

With Congress scrutinizing mobile privacy, Apple appears to be taking the extra steps necessary to ensure that apps cannot access your Unique Device Identifier (UDID).

A UDID is a long alphanumeric string that is unique to your device. Every iPhone, iPad, and iPod has an UDID.

Currently, many applications and services access your UDID for all sorts of reasons. Some are specifically built to provide a UDID so that you don’t have to plug your device into iTunes to see it, others use it to issue mobile advertisements based on the apps you use and the advertisements you already notice, and some use it to restrict access to their service to certain iOS devices.

  1. Hehe, wouldn't developers accessing photos use a lot of your battery!?
